The OpenSense Project (COST Action CA20136) is thrilled to announce a new call for Short Term Scientific Mission (STSM) applications for Grant Period 4. This is an excellent opportunity for researchers to collaborate internationally and contribute to the advancement of opportunistic sensing in hydrometeorology.
New Format for Grant Period 4
Eligibility: Open to all researchers and innovators participating in the OpenSense Action, regardless of age. In this call, we’re introducing an exciting new format:
- No Age Limit: Applications are open to researchers of all ages.
- Support for Senior Researchers: Up to 50% of the total STSM budget will be allocated to support senior researchers (>40 years old).
This change aims to foster intergenerational collaboration and knowledge exchange within the OpenSense community.
Budget:
- Total allocated budget: 14,000 EUR
- Average support per grant: Approximately 2,000 EUR
- Maximum award per grant: 3,500 EUR
Duration: Minimum 5 days (including travel), with no maximum limit.
Timeline:
- Start date: No earlier than November 1st, 2024
- Completion deadline: October 15th, 2025
Application Process
- Create an e-COST profile at https://e-services.cost.eu/
- Submit your application electronically through the e-COST platform
- Upload required documents in a single PDF file:
- Short CV (max 2 pages)
- Description of involvement in OpenSense (max 0.5 page)
- Application form
- Budget request
- Confirmation letter from the Host Institution
Evaluation
Applications will be reviewed monthly by the Grant Awarding Committee on a first-come-first-serve basis. Applicants will be notified of results within four weeks of submission.
Funding and Reimbursement
STSM grants are awarded as travel grants to individuals. Grantees are responsible for making their own arrangements regarding personal security, health, taxation, social security, and pension matters.
After completing the STSM, grantees must submit a short report on the outcomes within 30 days or by October 30th, 2025, whichever comes first. Grant payment will be processed within 30 days after report approval.

This is a continuously open call until September 15th, 2025, or until the budget is fully allocated.
