Round Table on Global Microwave Link Data Collection Initiative (GMDI)

To overcome critical barriers preventing commercial microwave link (CML) data exchange and usage for rainfall monitoring, OpenSense and the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) are co-organizing a meeting to establish fundamental principles of a global initiative for the collection and curation of attenuation data. The meeting will be held on 18th September 2024 at ITU’s headquarters in Geneva. We look forward to fruitful discussions with relevant stakeholders from the telecommunication and meteorology fields, namely ITU, GSMA, representatives of mobile network operators and manufacturers, national weather services, EUMETNET, and the World Meteorological Organization (WMO), as well as researchers involved in developing CML data processing. Details of the meeting are on the  ITU website.
